Resource efficiency is key for cities to move towards a green economy and contribute to global sustainability.
Many of the decisions and actions needed to move our society towards sustainable development rest largely with cities.
They bring efficiency gains and technological innovation through the proximity of economic activities, while reducing resource and energy consumption as well as providing increased opportunities for consumer choices and sustainable lifestyles.
We need to strengthen policies in planning a requirement. Various policy options are available, encourage recycling and reuse of wastewater. A low-energy type of water supply as reusable water is often a by-product of existing wastewater treatment processes.
Strengthen building codes to mandate that the construction industry choose only better building materials and interior finish products with zero or low emissions to improve indoor air quality. Building codes can also require more day lighting, better quality lighting products, as well as enhanced ventilation and air filtration.
