Sustainability is not an option but is the only way forward for providing low-cost housing

Affordable housing is fast taking center stage agenda in India. It is linked with sustainability on a whole.

Housing is the quantity, quality, availability and affordability of housing becomes a key component in national economic competitiveness.

Affordable housing refers to housing units that are affordable by that section of society whose income is below the median household income. Obtainable income of the people remains the primary factor in determining the affordability.

Sustainability is not an option but is the only way forward for local low-cost innovations.

Sustainability with quality rather than pricing can create opportunities for upcoming housing projects, especially since India’s socio-economic milieu warrants different perceptions of affordability.

The underlying idea is that people should be able to maintain comfortable living standards within affordable sustainable housing.
